Services In Detail
Main surgery with three local branch surgeries
We have three small "consulting only" branch surgeries situated in Langney, Willingdon, and East Dean as well as consulting at St Anne's Road. We only operate or perform anaesthetics at St Anne's Road. This reduces the travelling time for our clients and their pets for routine consultations, whilst ensuring that any surgical procedures are only carried out under optimum conditions and our main centre. We realise that some clients do find taking their pet to St Anne's Road for an operation an inconvenience, but we believe that, by centralising all operating to one site, we can increase the care to our patients and minimise the risk of anaesthesia and surgery. It means that we are able to dedicate a nurse to monitoring our pre and post op cases so that the nurse can concentrate on this important area. It also means that any surgical case, needing to be retained overnight, does not need to be moved for monitoring at night.
24 hour in-patient monitoring by on site nurse and 24 hour emergency veterinary cover.
We have a nurse (on rota) in attendance at our surgery 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is because St Anne's, unlike some Veterinary Practices, believes that in-patients need to be monitored 24 hours a day. We have a nurse stationed in our kennels throughout the day to monitor closely the pre- and post-op patients and a nurse on the premise, on duty, throughout the night to monitor our "in-mates". One of our Veterinary Surgeons is also on call, 24 hours a day, for these patients should the duty nurse require it.
A Veterinary Surgeon is available at St Anne's Road Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm, Sunday 9.30am to 5pm. Please always telephone for an appointment before attending.
EMERGENCY CALLS Monday to Friday between 8pm and 8am, 5pm Saturday and 9.30am Sunday, 5pm Sunday and 8am Monday are referred to the Greenleaves Night Clinic. Should you need emergency veterinary attention please always telephone EASTBOURNE 640011 first.
Please note that outside normal opening hours our nurses are unable to respond to any person who has not telephoned before arriving.
Pet health counsellors
We have nurses who are trained to give advice on keeping your pet healthy and are available to advise from "before you choose your pet" to its "geriatric years". They run "clinics" for puppies, weight watchers, and the "well pet" to detect problems before they show. Most of this advice and these clinics are free, so if you would like advice please do telephone us.
We feel that this is especially important if you are concidering having a new pet, the first few weeks of owning that pet will affect the rest of your relationship together.
Puppy socialisation groups
These are fun and early training sessions run by nurses and dog behaviourists. They take place at our St Anne's Road surgery in the evening. Your pup will learn to relate to other dogs and people in the correct way, thus avoiding many of the problems that can occur with dog ownership. By holding them at our surgery, your pup will associate the surgery with fun times and thus be less stressed on future visits.
Ambulance (reg P999VET!)
If delivering your pet to the surgery for an operation is difficult we can arrange collection. We will also deliver pet food and repeat prescriptions .. free if over £25.
Weighing
We have walk-on scales at all our surgeries so that you can ensure your pet is not becoming overweight. If you would like to weigh your pet please call in to any of our branches during surgery hours and our receptionist will be very happy to help you and give you advice. You do not need an appointment for this free service.
Pet foods, health care products, and accessories
A range of foods and health care products that we believe will keep your pet in the best possible health throughout its life.
We also stock a range of good quality leads and a fun range of safe toys. A larger range of items can be obtained by next day delivery either from this website link or from catalogues in our waiting rooms.
Tracer microchip identification and "PetPorte" microchip cat flaps
We strongly recomend this permanent identification system to help ease the worry of your pet being lost or stolen. It can be implanted at any time but especially at neutering time. St Anne's is now an agent for "PetPorte" cat flaps. These cat flaps are programmed to your cat's microchip number (up to 13 different numbers for the multicat household!) They let your cats in and keep unwanted cats out without the worry of your cat needing to wear a collar. The doors are available in white, brown or black and for fitting to doors or walls.
Consultations by appointment
All routine consultations are by appointment, this reduces your waiting time and means that your pet is not subjected to the stress of a crowded waiting room. Please help us to help you by telephoning (01323) 640011 as soon as possible after 8.15am. There will always be an appointment for the pet that needs one.
Home visits by Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Nurses.
We realise that there are occations when clients prefer not to bring their pet to a surgery and would prefer the less stressful alternative of a home visit. For this reason all of our Vets and qualified nurses will make home visits. Nurses will visit for routine proceedures such as nail clipping, worming, applying flea control, and medicating. Please remember that some examinations are much better performed at a surgery due to the greater range of equipment and drugs available at a surgery. As home visits take an increased amount of time we appreciate as much prior notice as possible.

VACANCIES at ST ANNE'S
Staff vacancies 2008.
We are looking for a young, part-time, kennel person to help at our St Anne's Road Surgery. This position is suitable for someone at school who wishes to become involved with the care of animals. If you are interested please contact Raymund Bouwman or Janine Houghton.
Pet Bereavement Supporter
Sadly, a pet doesn’t live forever and sooner or later the time comes for all of us to say goodbye to a beloved friend. This can be a very traumatic experience.
At St. Anne’s we are all too aware of the emotions that the loss of a pet brings with it, as most of us have experienced this first hand with our own pets. You can, therefore, always speak to your vet or nurse, and count on a sympathetic approach in those difficult times. Some owners experience it as beneficial to also get some support from a different angle or simply find it easier or preferable to talk to someone other than their vet or nurse, someone slightly less involved in the veterinary world. That is the reason that we are proud to introduce a new service to our customers. We now have a pet bereavement supporter in our team. Her name is June, and she is contactable through St. Anne’s.
June has long established counselling skills in previous employment and has undergone specific training in pet bereavement support. She has first hand experience with the grieving process after her dog, Polly, was put to sleep at St. Anne’s. June is in the perfect position to offer support and lend a listening ear!
Should you find yourself in the situation of having recently lost your pet and wish to talk with June all you have to do is phone St. Anne’s. We will then arrange for June to phone you back as soon as she is able to. Needless to say this service is free of charge!
